Wellness

Etna is a place where Community truly matters.
Etna has taken great strides to promote a healthy community. Etna has developed walking maps and trails for residents, created a community garden to donate fresh produce to local food pantries, sponsors an annual farmers' market, developed a stormwater management plan, and adopted smoke-free parks and buildings, amongst a long list of other initiatives.

Live Well Allegheny Cerification

On August 8, 2015, at Etna's Community Day, our efforts were recognized. Etna Borough became one of 12 communities in Allegheny County to be designated a Live Well Allegheny Community. Borough officials joined Allegheny County Health Department director Dr. Karen Hacker and council member Ed Kress to formally designate the borough.
The program is led by the county health department and encourages municipalities, city neighborhoods and school districts to gain the Live Well status by passing a resolution outlining goals it has met and striving toward promoting overall wellness in the community. Live Well Allegheny highlights the need to increase physical activity, eat healthy, and be proactive in managing one’s health.

This long-term effort focuses on more than just physical health. It also includes mental wellness, personal and community safety, preparedness, efforts to improve well-being and quality of life, education and health literacy. Live Well Allegheny‘s goals will evolve in response to trends, data and statistics brought to bear by the Health Department and its stakeholders.
